Adrienne Green, MD
Professor
Adrienne Green is a Clinical Professor of Medicine, Chief Medical Officer for UCSF Medical Center and Vice President for Medical and Regulatory Affairs for UCSF Health. In her role as CMO, Dr. Green is responsible for alignment of all adult inpatient and hospital based services with the mission and vision of UCSF Health and the academic missions of the UCSF campus. She is responsible for ensuring the highest level of quality, safety, efficiency, patient and provider experience for adult services at UCSF, and for doing so in a fiscally responsible manner. As VP for Medical and Regulatory Affairs, Dr. Green provides leadership and oversight for the Office of Medical Affairs and Governance as well as all licensing and accreditation activities for UCSF Health.
Prior to assuming the role of CMO in January 2016, Dr. Green was the Associate CMO from 2007-2015. Other leadership roles have included Medical Directorship of the UCSF Transfer Center, Case Management and the Hospital Medicine Service at UCSF Mt. Zion Hospital.
In her leadership roles, Dr. Green has provided physician oversight and leadership in many arenas including care transitions, patient safety and root cause analysis, patient throughput and accountable care. In 2014-2015, Adrienne led UCSF Health’s response to the Ebola epidemic including the opening of a Highly Infectious Care Unit. More recently she co-led UCSF's preparedness efforts during the COVID-19 epidemic.
Dr. Green received a B.A. in Molecular Biology and Biochemistry from Wesleyan University in 1987, her M.D. from Hahnemann University School of Medicine in 1994 and completed a residency and chief residency in internal medicine at Stanford University Hospital in 1998. A practicing Hospitalist at UCSF since 1998, Dr. Green is the recipient of the Society of Hospital Medicine Award for Clinical Excellence and the UCSF Exceptional Physician Award. Dr. Green has served as a member of the board of directors for By the Bay Health and is currently a board member at the San Francisco Center for Jewish Living.
