Mary Whitney has been an administrator at UCSF for 23 years, first in the Cardiovascular Research Institute, before switching to the Department of Medicine in 1989.
Mary holds a Bachelor’s degree in Art History and a Master’s degree in Museum Studies, which included several internships at museums in the Bay Area. She is an experienced opera and choral singer, having sung soprano for 12 years in the highly regarded (and Grammy-winning) San Francisco Symphony Chorus, in operas with the San Francisco Lyric Opera, and as an operatic soloist at the Jarvis Conservatory in Napa. She has also performed in non-singing roles with the San Francisco Opera. Mary is currently taking French at the SF Alliance Francaise, and in her spare time (!), does power-sewing of home interior projects, haunts bookstores, and obsesses over her two cats.
