Faculty Development

The Division of Hospital Medicine organizes a comprehensive Faculty Development Program with certain activities targeting new faculty and others for the entire division. For new faculty, the goal is to provide clinical, educational, leadership, systems improvement, and scholarly skills that promote academic success, personal growth, and work satisfaction. The specific programs include: 1) DHM Coaching & Mentoring Program (designated senior faculty to meet with regularly during 1st year), 2) DHM Core Seminar Series (3 dedicated half-day curricula during 1st year), 3) DHM Stanford Teaching Program (14 hours of instruction, video, and feedback during 1st year led by Brad Sharpe), and 4) DHM Clinical Teaching Observation (while on teaching service).

For the Division, the FD Program hosts DHM Grand Rounds and facilitates twice monthly sessions as part of a weekly Monday DHM Lunch Meeting. The 2nd Mondays are dedicated “Quality & Safety” sessions led by Arpana Vidyarthi where topics include medical service quality and safety data presentations, updates on DHM quality and safety improvement initiatives, and other related topics and speakers. The 4th Mondays are dedicated for a DHM FD Lunch Seminar Series that encompass a wide variety of important topics, and are facilitated by DHM faculty. Upcoming seminars are listed below. Finally, Andrew Auerbach leads a weekly “Works in Progress” meeting on Thursdays from 1-2p for faculty to receive feedback and discuss new project ideas, drafts of manuscripts, educational curricula, and any other scholarly work.
