Conundrums and Cases

Meet & Greet

The first part of the C & C conference (~15 min) is designed to help new faculty in particular. This is an open forum to ask ANY questions that you may have about life at Parnassus (administrative, service related, etc), troubleshoot any logistical issues, and to meet other faculty within and outside of our Division to learn about each other's career paths, roles, and interests.

Conundrums & Cases

Conundrums & Cases (C&C) consists of an educational activity to achieve practice improvement in the realms of medical knowledge, clinical competence and clinical performance. These bi-weekly conferences afford hospitalists the opportunity to discuss and review the latest evidence regarding the approach to clinical conundrums.

Hospitalists are encouraged to bring active cases, which require real time clinical decision-making, focusing on case-based clinical uncertainty (e.g., diagnostic, therapeutic, prognostic, communication or ethical challenges). These sessions involve group discussion, innovative use of IT for knowledge, and literature reviews with the assistance of a clinical librarian. This conference is open to anyone who attends on the Moffitt or Mount Zion wards (DHM Hospitalists, DHM Fellows, DGIM Attendings).

If you know in advance that you have a case to present, please notify Brad Monash at bmonash@medicine.ucsf.edu.

Objectives:

  • To achieve practice improvement in the realms of medical knowledge, clinical competence and clinical performance through the discussion of patient care and clinical reasoning
  • To foster individual learning through group discussion
  • To provide individual clinicians with peer mentorship in a clinical realm
  • To create a safe environment for sharing uncertainty in approaching complex clinical scenarios, focusing on ethical and clinical conundrums
