Procedure Service

Diane Sliwka, MD
Medical Director of
Procedure Service

The Hospitalist Procedure Service is dedicated to providing the best quality procedures to adult medical inpatients at Moffitt-Long Hospital at UCSF as well as high quality teaching for Internal Medicine housestaff early in their residency. The service is one of the first few in the country dedicated to providing bedside procedural care in a teaching environment. Hospitalists with extra training and experience in procedures supervise Internal Medicine housestaff in procedures such as lumbar puncture, abdominal paracentesis, thoracentesis, central lines, arthrocentesis and ultrasound guidance for such procedures. The service is available 8-5 Monday to Friday. Residents and interns participating in this service will be directly taught and receive feedback from procedure faculty for all procedures that they do. In addition, trainees will increasingly have the opportunity to learn with simulation training for hands on practice in procedures using models.
